IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe resigned early Wednesday morning October 18th 2017. Akombe said IEBC was compromised and was no longer capable of conducting a free, fair and credible election.
The former IEBC commissioner claimed that the electoral body was serving the interest of the political class and she couldn’t be party to it.
Akombe’s decision to flee to US where she announced her resignation proved the lives of senior IEBC officials were under threat.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino quoted Akombe saying that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati wanted to resign but withdrew his resignation when he was threatened with a gun on his head.
“Last week, i saw a gun put on my Chairman’s head infront of our staff when he was almost going to the Press to resign, I no longer felt safe even at work!..”
