Guardian Angel who bagged the artiste of the year award and was the overall 2018 Groove Awards winner, will get an inpatient medical cover of Sh6 million while his counterparts Timeless Noel, Hype Ochi and Jabidii of the hit song Odi dance will get a Sh 1 million cover each from the underwriter. “This is our way of supporting upcoming local talent which we believe has great potential if nurtured and supported. As AAR Insurance, we consider the creative industry a big contributor to the economy especially as part of the small and medium Enterprises and we shall direct efforts in nurturing this industry as part of our contribution to spurring job creation for the youth who make up a significant proportion of the Kenyan population,” said Nixon Shigoli, AAR Insurance Kenya Managing Director.

Medical Insurance is, unfortunately, a luxury for the majority of musicians or artistes in Kenya especially those who are starting out. The nature of their job being mostly freelance or short-term contracts, means buying private insurance can be downright prohibitive for them given the cost and the unpredictable nature of freelance income.
