The world got to learn about the escape of eleven suspects who escaped from a police station where they were being held in Bungoma County.
The 11 suspects that ran away used a piece of metal to dig a hole in the police cell where they were held to make enough space to fit their bodies through it to “freedom”.
Prior to their escape, the suspects had distracted the guards on duty by singing and praying loudly to make sure no one heard the noise they were making while they were digging the hole through the concrete wall.
“After checking, they found out that the eleven suspects charged with various offenses had escaped through a hole ” Subcounty commander-Bungoma, South Wilson Nanga told NTV.
A joint team consisting of officers from the station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), while combing the area, spotted one of the escapees – Isaac Wekesa – running towards a nearby bush near an airstrip and shot him on the thigh.
Wekesa was then taken to the Bungoma Referral Hospital where he is presently admitted in stable condition as a manhunt for the remaining escapees continues.
The escapees have since been identified as: Brian Ochieng Onyango (robbery with violence), John Wanyonyi (robbery with violence), Clerkson Otieno (burglary), Simon Wekesa (assault), Collins Juma Nyukuri (assault), Alex Simiyu Muyekho (stealing), Bramwel Barasa (defilement), Pascal Kiberenge Namasaka (impersonation), Emmanuel Wakoko (assault), John Barasa Wekesa (breaking and stealing) and Isaac Wekesa (stealing).
