Senator Mike Sonko In Rescue Once Again! A Mistreated Female Kenyan Rescued By Sonko After She Got Burnt Abroad

4 mins read

Many Kenyans have been subjected to inhumane treatment in abroad all in the name of work and especially in Arabs countries, I really ask these Arabs an honest question:

“What have we ever done wrong to you that you treat us(Kenyans) like dogs while us on the other hand treats you with utmost respect you deserve”?

Take that question as a rhetorical question if you want or answer it you do have an answer but apparently I am not the only one hurt from this brutality actions as the Senator of Nairobi Mike Sonko took to social media to address the matter in an open letter and promised to strike a motion in the Senate to help curb any more inhumane activities abroad.

Mike Sonko had this to say;

“CONDEMNING MISTREATMENT OF KENYANS WORKING IN UNITED EMIRATES AND OTHER ARAB COUNTRIES.

Today will remain a remarkable day in my life. I am saddened, shocked and seriously disturbed by cases of innocent young Kenyans lured by the promise of well-paid work in the Arab countries but end up being abused by their employers.

My Team received a call from a relative of a young girl who was employed in Dubai as a house help but the employer is suspected to have burnt her and relieved her of her duties without any medical assistance.

Serious and shocking as it sounds, I commanded my team and our medical personal to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the wee hours and together with the family received the lady who was burnt and in bad state. ( we shall not release her name due to some unavoidable circumstances)

After receiving the lady, we drove her to Kenyatta National Hospital for emergency treatment where she is currently admitted. I wish to take this opportunity to first wish her quick recovery and response to treatment. I ask fellow Kenyans to pray for her.

Secondly, I wish to condemn in the strongest terms possible such a beastly act by her employer and never again shall we allow fellow Kenyans to be mistreated in the name of seeking employment abroad. Innocent Kenyans leaving for foreign employment must be treated with the respect they deserve.

It is high time the government cracked down on recruitment agencies to the Middle East and should be held responsible over such inhumane acts. I will pursue this matter through the recruitment agent of the lady and through our Foreign affairs ministry as well as the Labour ministry to ensure justice is done. I will further prepare a Bill for debate in the Senate that will regulate recruitment agencies and that will guarantee security and good working environment for our hard working youths who seek employment abroad.
