No-nonsense Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, has surprised everyone in the country, after said he will he personally supervise the opening of schools in January 2017.

The CS has said he will personally supervise the opening of schools to prevent fee hiking.

Matiangi’i said, he will supervise the opening of schools from January 4th to 9th, together with senior education officials.

Matiang’i said he was forced to supervise the opening of schools, in order to catch secondary school principals, who charge higher fees out of what has been gazetted by the government.

Matiang’i said it’s illegal and primitive to charge outside the gazetted fee guideline.

“These fees guidelines must be implemented without exception, It is primitive and illegal to charge outside the guidelines,” he said.

According to the Education CS, parents should pay KSh 9,374 for day schools with boarding fees at KSh 53,543 and special education schools at KSh 37,210 per year.

Matiang’i urged parents to pay the exact amount according to the guidelines and if any school head charged above that, they should report to the regional education coordinators and county directors of education for immediate action.
