Ekuru Aukot allowed to run for presidency on October 26th

Ekuru Aukot and Jubilee supporters will be celebrating with relief that the courts have allowed him( Ekuru Aukot) to be on the ballot on the 26th of October 2017 for the re-run of the presidential elections. This will surely be a blow to Raila Odinga and NASA supporters countrywide after he chose to sit out the elections.

The thought process must have been that with him sitting out, the elections will be postponed until the reservations he has, have been dealt with. But with the courts allowing for Ekuru Aukot to be on the ballot the IEBC can conduct the election and call it free and fair because it will at least have two candidates pitted against each other.

If the election had gone ahead with Uhuru alone on the ballot it would have been pretty poor P.R for our electoral processes and presented a picture of autocracy like in neighbouring Uganda. This new development is a bit scary because a big portion of the country supports the NASA candidate and it would be a recipe for disaster if their voices were not to be heard in the repeat poll.

I know I make a lot of jokes but this is serious business. I don’t see great times for this country if the election goes ahead without Raila on the ballot. It would be a nightmare for positive nation building and cohesive ethnicity. My prayer as a Kenyan is that Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga can sit down and iron out their differences on how the poll should be run. So that we may have free and fair elections.  We need that as a country. As I posted earlier, even Savara of Sauti Sol sees the problem the country is facing. We are on the wrong road as a country. The wrong road!
