Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili aka Babu Owino is a man on a mission. The man who has had a September that some would describe best as being an ice cube on a hot pan is not letting up. After the closure of the University of Nairobi, he issued a statement to Education CS Fred Matiangi on his social media.
It read:
“Matiang’i has ordered university senate to close The University of Nairobi indefinitely. This is not the solution but postponing the problem. Revolution in many countries in the world started from the universities. Comrades power is second after the Holy Spirit power,”
This is after students protested over the arrest of former student President Babu Owino after his remarks against the president. In a video clip posted by Babu Owino on social media, the university students can be heard demanding that the institution’s Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi get fired. The allegation is that that he allowed the police officers into the university premises and thus is partly responsible for the carnage that ensued. Here is the video clip:
Now a picture is starting to take shape as to why the university was abruptly closed. When people start demanding for your head, fear takes over and knee-jerk reactions are the result. But what do I know anyway? Haya ni ya Mungu!
